Hi William, Good to hear from you. And keep listening to the show! Do you know of any children's books dealing with diseases or disabilities that "run in the family"? I will be starting a book page on this blog soon, I hope, and would like to include books for children.

Dr. Karwoski,

I'm impressed with this site, and disappointed at what appears to have led you to establish it.

Too often, patients are left to deal with the 500+ organizations you talked about. And they are left to identify a coping strategy, as the advice they receive from a licensed caregiver begins to decline, particularly if a case does not fit an established profile for treatment. Unfortunately, I have on two occasions seen my own Soldiers unable to find solutions despite the support provided by a very robust military healthcare system.

You are doing a great public service, and provide an invaluable resource here. I wish you the best of luck as you move forward. I will remember this web site as the need arises.

Sincerely,
Hal Griffin

Thanks for reading, Dan. I'm interested in knowing in what sense you see carrier knowledge as something that would "help people you deal with." Could you elaborate?

Just wanted to share that we had a horrible experience with the clinic that does Microsort. As a carrier, we originally thought Microsort was a good option. However, we soon found that the clinic was more interested in making money than helping families like ours. When some of the preliminary tests revealed that our chances might not be as great as others, they refused to even let us try. All of this after investing almost $1000 on all of the tests, etc. Also, the nurses we talked to on the phone often forgot that we were doing it for genetic reasons and thus weren't as serious about everything as we would have liked. Anyhow, just thought I would put this out there for others who may be considering. We ended up doing IVF with PGD somewhere else and are now parents to a healthy baby.
